Port Eco Kids Village Port Macquarie NSW

The Port Eco Kids Village playground transformation demonstrates how thoughtful construction and well-designed outdoor environments can enhance early childhood learning. LeadBuilt was engaged to revitalise multiple outdoor play areas across the centre, introducing new play structures, shaded activity zones, upgraded landscaping and play surfacing to create a safe and engaging play environment for children of all ages.

Key Project Highlights:

Shaded Outdoor Learning with Pergola and Shade Sails
Creating comfortable outdoor spaces was a key focus of this project. LeadBuilt constructed a new pergola structure above a sandstone seating area, providing a sheltered gathering space beneath the existing tree canopy. Additional heavy-duty shade sails were installed across key areas of the playground to provide high UV protection while maintaining an open, flexible and inviting learning environment. These shaded zones ensure children and staff can comfortably enjoy outdoor play throughout the day.

Active Play with Soccer Pitch and Bike Track
To support movement and group activities, the playground was upgraded with a synthetic turf soccer pitch featuring multipurpose court line marking. Premium synthetic turf and soft fall matting with a carefully prepared base ensure durability and safety for everyday use. A new bike track was also introduced as part of the playground upgrade, providing a dedicated space for children to ride bikes and scooters while developing coordination and confidence.

Custom Timber Play Fort
A custom-built timber play fort forms a central feature of the playground. The structure includes elevated platforms, climbing elements, and a wide double slide designed to encourage physical activity and imaginative play. Constructed from durable hardwood timber and built to Australian playground standards, the fort promotes balance, coordination, and confidence-building through active exploration.

Sandpits, Water Misters and Sensory Play Spaces
The toddler play areas were enhanced with upgraded sandpits designed for safe and creative play. Sandstone edging, fresh washed sand, and integrated drainage systems ensure durability and easy maintenance. A water mister feature was installed nearby to introduce an interactive cooling element, allowing children to engage in water-based sensory play during warmer days. Surrounding sensory pathways incorporating natural stone paving and textured materials encourage tactile exploration and open-ended play.

Retaining Wall and Secret Garden Area
An underutilised retaining wall section of the playground was redesigned to create a more functional and engaging space. Existing decking and steps were removed, allowing for new timber stairs, fencing, and landscaping improvements. The result is a “secret garden” style area with stepping stones and planting that offers children a quieter space for exploration and discovery.

A Revitalised Outdoor Play Environment
The completed playground provides a dynamic outdoor learning environment that balances active and flexible play, imaginative exploration, and shaded learning areas. Through thoughtful design and quality construction, LeadBuilt has delivered a modern playspace that supports children’s development while creating a welcoming environment for daily outdoor learning.
