The Beach Early Learning Centre Erina NSW
The playground refurbishment at The Beach Early Learning Centre in Erina focused on opening up the play space to better suit the needs of a centre with a smaller playground. LeadBuilt worked closely with the client to remove the clutter of previous play equipment and structures, creating a more open and functional outdoor environment that supports active and flexible play, quiet learning and improved supervision for educators.
By combining targeted upgrades with refurbishment of existing elements, the project delivered a cost-effective and low maintenance playground transformation that maximises usable space while improving the flow and usability of the outdoor learning environment.
Key Project Highlights:
Concrete Bike Track with Sensory Play Elements
A new concrete bike track was constructed with a broom-finished, non-slip surface to provide a safe riding environment for bikes and scooters. Sensory sections were incorporated along the track to introduce varied textures and interactive elements that encourage coordination, balance and physical development.
Open and Flexible Central Play Area
The centre of the kindergarten playground area was constructed with premium synthetic turf with a softfall underlay to create a large, open play zone that encourages movement and free play. The finished product was a safe and durable surface suitable for a range of dynamic play activities.
Timber Fort Refurbishment and Shade Sail
To maximise value for the client, the existing timber play fort was carefully refurbished rather than replaced. The structure was repaired and refreshed to extend its lifespan while maintaining a play feature that continues to support climbing, exploration and imaginative play. A new shade sail was constructed above the fort, creating a comfortable shaded play area.
Quiet Learning Area with Pergola and Natural Stone Finishes
A quiet learning space was created beneath the existing pergola to provide a calm environment for group activities, storytelling and educator-led learning sessions. The area features sandstone block edge seating on new sandstone crazy paving, creating a natural and durable gathering space surrounded by a garden with sub-tropical planting.
Sandpit Reconfiguration and Toddler Play Space Upgrade
Existing sandpits were reshaped using sandstone block edging to create more defined and functional play areas. The toddler yard was also reconfigured to reclaim underutilised space and transform it into a larger open play area finished with synthetic turf and soft fall matting, supporting flexible play and improved supervision for educators.
A More Functional Outdoor Learning Environment
The completed playground now provides a balanced outdoor environment that supports quiet learning, sensory exploration and active play. LeadBuilt delivered a practical, low-cost, low-maintenance solution that improves usability, safety and long-term performance for the centre.
